Penzance Ballet School is a specialist classical ballet training centre based in the far west of Cornwall
Our aim is to inspire and nurture dance students of all abilities and ages. We work to safely develop technique, skill, artistry and confidence, preparing our students to take their ISTD Cecchetti Classical Ballet exams and to perform for audiences large and small.
We look forward to welcoming you and your children to our family of dance.
Formerly Anne Webb School of Dance
Penzance Ballet School was formerly Anne Webb School of Dance, one of Penzance’s distinguished
long running and beloved centres of dance training.
Mrs Anne Webb built the school in the 1970s, teaching ballet, tap, modern and ballroom to generations of children and adults over many years. In more recent times Anne concentrated her efforts into teaching her great love: Cecchetti Classical Ballet. With her retirement, Anne passed her school into the hands of Rachel Puddiphatt & Jane Betts, and with her blessing, we became Penzance Ballet School. Anne still lives locally and enjoys coming to see the children progressing with their studies.
Rachel Puddiphatt started her ballet training with Esme Preston in North Devon before going on to train professionally at Bush Davies, at that time one of the UK’s leading vocational schools for the performing arts. She went on to work in the environmental consultancy sector and returned to ballet to assist Anne Webb. Although her background is in the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus, Rachel values the defined structure, safe progression and robust technique of the Cecchetti Method and is qualified with DDE in Cecchetti Classical Ballet with the ISTD. Rachel is also a certified teacher of Progressing Ballet Technique, an exciting and innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program to safely train muscle memory for core stability, weight placement and alignment. Married with three children, some chickens and a dog, Rachel is also a primary school governor and is trained in Child Safeguarding and First Aid.
Jane Betts started her ballet training with Eileen Langman. A Junior Associate at the Royal Ballet School and a Cecchetti Scholar, she went on to train professionally at Arts Educational School. When injury put an end to her performing career, Jane became assistant teacher to Cecchetti examiner Elisabeth Swan and Juan Sanchez, ex principal of Festival Ballet before relocating to Cornwall in 2012. As a qualified Cecchetti teacher, Jane was overjoyed to find Cecchetti Ballet in Penzance and joined Rachel in the school on Anne’s retirement. Jane is married with two children and two dogs.
Penzance Ballet School takes your children’s well-being seriously and safe dance practice is paramount in all that we do. Our teachers are professionally trained and qualified and all have enhanced DBS checks in place. The school is insured and our teachers undertake regular training with the ISTD for their professional development.
